Description Northern  Painted Bentwood Box Corner Orientated Design Date: 19th Century Artist: Tlingit ,Tsimshian or Haida Artist Materials: Bentwood cedar, black and red vermilion pigments and operculum shell, wooden pegs and early iron nails Dimensions: 19” x 15” x 14” with lid on. 15 ½” x 13 ¼” x 13 ¼” (without lid) Description: A great early painted bentwood box with a rare corner orientated design featuring a bear motif. Out of all known painted bentwood boxes less than 1% feature a corner orientated designs. The box is a nice size and in really good condition for a 150 plus year old example. A must for any serious collection.
